The History and Origin of the Biewer (Pronounced Bee Vir)
Germany, 1984
Mr. and Mrs. Werner & Gertrude Biewer were accomplished Yorkshire Terrier breeders, but when they bred two of their champion Yorkies, Darling von Friedheck and Fru Fru von Friedheck, something wonderfully unexpected happened - they produced a litter with the perfect combination of recessive piebald genes. The piebald gene is often seen in other breeds of dogs, but being a recessive gene in the Yorkshire Terrier, the genes from both parents had to match up perfectly to produce a piebald litter. Thanks to this happy accident, the first Biewer was born.
Both Darling and Fru Fru von Friedheck were World Youth Winners in 1981 at Dortmund as blue and tan Yorkshire Terriers. Schneeflocken von Friedheck was the first Black/Blue, White and Gold Biewer to be born in January 1984 from the union of these outstanding Yorkies.

Mr. Biewer rejoiced in what the puppies he had produced and with passion and dedication, he continued breeding and perfecting his line of Biewers until his death in 1997. Mr. Biewer lived to see the Biewer get accepted as its own breed with the ACH German e.V. in 1989.
Mr. Biewer had a clear-cut idea of what Biewers should look like and he set up a breed standard to that effect. The Breed Standard was identified as that of a Yorkshire Terrier except for the coloring. The head must be three colours: Black/Blue, White and Gold. The belly, chest, legs and the tip of the tail is white. The tail is full wtih black or blue and white in it. The Biewer's hair is silky and it grows almost floor length if groomed properly.
Mr. Biewer's legacy lives on through this exquisite rare breed that has enchanted people worldwide with their elegance, sweet temperament and wonderful disposition.
This is the original Breed Standard as compiled by Mr. Biewer:
